All great advice, Kelli! I use several of the directories you called out frequently (I especially like the local directory - it has been nice finding new Twitter friends in SoCal).

One thing I typically do if I have a bit of extra time is look at who some of my favorite influencers are following and follow them as well.

Also, the media people on Twitter wiki (https://twitteringjournalists.pbwiki.com/Media-People-Using-Twitter) has been helpful in finding journalists to connect with.

I think the best way to find people to follow is to use #hashtags (like tressalynne touched on) and then start to follow people who interest you within those spaces. It's completely scalable...so you can unfollow or even block someone if you don't mesh.

Oh great point! Hashtags are a great way to not only find smart people to follow, but also learn so many great tips and get access to terrific resources.

Thank you!

Great post Kelli, even for those of us that have been on Twitter for a bit. I would add to your list some of the common hashtags that one can follow. For example, in public relations, one might want to search #PRadvice #PR #journchat #publicrelations #PRSA #IABC #mediarelations and so on. Thanks for the tips!
